Community Housing Association

Southern Junction’s Community Housing Association aims to provide adequate, appropriate, secure and affordable accommodation for people who are socially or economically disadvantaged on a not-for-profit basis.

Who is Eligible to Become a Tenant? 

SJCS can accept applications for Community Housing from people who are socially or economically disadvantaged and who meet the requirements of the government eligibility criteria as assessed according to the South Australian Government’s Community Housing Eligibility Register (CHER). 

Rent

Community Housing rent is based on the household income. Rents are reviewed twice yearly or when the household income changes. Tenants are required to provide proof of income within 14 days of receiving notice of a rent review.

   The Government Eligibility Criteria are:

·         Be a resident of South Australia

·         Be in receipt of an income

·         Not own a habitable property. (Special circumstances may apply)

·         Meet the income and assets tests and /or the needs test.

How to Apply for a Tenancy

A person wishing to become a tenant (or the person’s advocate) should telephone 8392 3000 and ask to speak to a Property Services Officer.

Eligible prospective tenants will be sent an ‘Express of Interest for Tenancy’ Form and information outlining the Tenant Eligibility and Tenant Selection Criteria. A downloadable version of the application form is available under the download section at the bottom of this page.

Note: Completion of the Multi-Agency Referral and Assessment Form at an interview will be considered as an application for tenancy.

We will confirm receipt of your application form in writing.

We will let you know if we are able to make a housing offer to you.  We encourage applicants to keep in touch with us whilst awaiting the outcomes of the housing allocation process, particularly if your circumstances change.
